Examples of Real Client Projects

  1. Prostate Cancer: The insurer initially denied coverage for an Endorectal MRI used for pre-operative nerve and tumor mapping for our client's prostate cancer treatment. EvidenceCompass identified studies demonstrating that this imaging significantly improves surgical outcomes.  These studies provided to the case manager. As a result, the denial was reversed.
  2. Knee Ligament Repair: The insurer initially denied coverage for revision of a complex ACL tear performed by a top local specialist, citing out-of-network status. EvidenceCompass identified and submitted to case manager studies demonstrating that this highly experienced specialist utilized a surgical technique yielding significantly better outcomes compared to standard procedures. Consequently, the denial was reversed.

  1. Wrist Fracture: Multiple orthopedic surgeons recommended surgical intervention with pins and plates. EvidenceCompass identified studies supporting the efficacy of specialized physical therapy for wrist fracture healing. The client underwent the specialized physical therapy, resulting in successful wrist healing without surgical intervention.

  1. Lyme Disease: Client was initially diagnosed with Lyme disease based on an initial positive Lyme screening test. EvidenceCompass found studies confirming that further diagnostic testing might reveal that the Lyme test result was a false positive. Subsequent evaluation confirmed that the client was actually experiencing an acute Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection, which can cause cross-reactivity leading to false positive Lyme test results. 
  2. Celiac Disease: Client was initially diagnosed with Hashimoto’s disease; however, treatment did not fully resolve the fatigue and gastrointestinal symptoms. EvidenceCompass identified and summarized studies confirming the possibility of coexisting celiac disease with Hashimoto’s. Subsequent testing for celiac disease was positive. After starting treatment for celiac disease, the patient's fatigue and gastrointestinal symptoms resolved, highlighting the importance of evaluating for concurrent autoimmune conditions when symptoms persist

  1. Client, based in NYC, required triple bypass surgery and wanted to find the best surgeon/surical center.  EvidenceCompass identified cardiothoracic surgery centers and surgeons in NYC with the highest survival rates and lowest complication rates.  
  2. Client wanted to know how often patients develop heart block requiring a pacemaker after atrial fibrillation ablation. EvidenceCompass helped identify centers or cardiologists with the lowest rates of this complication.
  3. Client received the Zostavax Shingles vaccine over 9 years ago and wanted  to know whether it still provides effective protection against shingles. EvidenceCompass report confirmed that the Zostavax vaccine loses significant efficacy after 9 years.  Patient received the Shingrex vaccine booster.

 

  1. BRCA Testing: EvidenceCompass summarized the available evidence for a client who wanted to understand the difference in breast cancer risk between women who are BRCA positive versus those who are BRCA negative.
  2. Environmental Toxins: Clients whose home/land tested positive for environmental toxins such as benzene, arsenic, radon, and asbestos requested evidence on the rates of cancer and other diseases associated with high-level exposure to these contaminants. EvidenceCompass provided a comprehensive summary of available scientific studies quantifying the increased risks of various diseases linked to these toxins. This evidence informed decisions regarding further health testing, access restrictions, cleanup protocols, ongoing health monitoring, and safe timing for returning to the property.
